Sweet Potato Pie
Savor the rich, comforting flavors of this classic Sweet Potato Pie, a beloved Southern dessert that brings together velvety sweet potatoes with warm spices in a tender, flaky crust.
Ingredients:
2 medium sweet potatoes (about 1 pound)
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
½ cup milk
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 unbaked pie crust (9-inch)
Whipped cream, for serving
Instructions:
Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350℉ (176.67℃).
Cook Sweet Potatoes: Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into chunks. Boil them in a pot of water until fork-tender, about 20 minutes. Drain, let them cool slightly, and then mash until smooth.
Prepare Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed sweet potatoes with granulated sugar and melted butter. Mix well. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is well incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the milk, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
Fill Pie Crust: Pour the sweet potato mixture into the unbaked pie crust, smoothing the top with a spatula.
Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes, or until the center is set and a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. If the crust edges brown too quickly, cover them with aluminum foil.
Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack. Serve each slice with a dollop of whipped cream, if desired.
This Sweet Potato Pie is not just a dessert, it’s a celebration of simple, wholesome ingredients brought together to create a timeless treat that’s as nutritious as it is delicious.
