🥣 Homemade Custard Filling 🍮
📋 Ingredients:
2 cups (480ml) whole milk
1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
4 large egg yolks
1/4 cup (30g) cornstarch
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt

📝 Instructions:
1️⃣ In a medium saucepan, heat the whole milk over medium heat until it starts to steam, but do not let it boil.
2️⃣ In a separate bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth and well combined.
3️⃣ Slowly pour about 1/2 cup of the warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly to temper the eggs.
4️⃣ Gradually whisk the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining warm milk.
5️⃣ Cook the custard mixture over medium-low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon or whisk, until it thickens and coats the back of the spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to let it boil.
6️⃣ Once thickened, remove the custard from the heat and strain it through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean bowl to remove any lumps.
7️⃣ Cover the surface of the custard with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming, then refrigerate it until chilled and set, about 2-3 hours.
8️⃣ Use the homemade custard filling as desired in cakes, pastries, pies, or enjoy it on its own as a creamy dessert.
📝 Notes:
◻️ For a richer custard, you can substitute some or all of the whole milk with heavy cream.
◻️ Feel free to customize the flavor of the custard by adding ingredients such as cocoa powder, citrus zest, or spices like cinnamon or nutmeg. Just adjust the amount of sugar accordingly.
