Tender Braised Brisket with a Sweet and Smoky Glaze
Ingredients:
2 kg beef brisket
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons smoked paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
Directions:
Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Rub this mixture all over the brisket.
Heat olive oil in a large oven-proof skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the brisket and sear on both sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Remove the brisket and set aside. In the same skillet, add onions and garlic, sautéing until soft.
Return the brisket to the skillet. Add beef broth, barbecue sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Bring to a simmer.
Cover the skillet with a lid or aluminum foil and transfer to the preheated oven. Cook for about 4 hours, or until the brisket is tender.
Remove from oven, let rest for 20 minutes, then shred the meat with two forks.
