Crispy Southern Fried Peaches
Ingredients:
4 ripe peaches, pitted and sliced
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
Vegetable oil, for frying
Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
Directions:
In a shallow bowl, mix together flour, cornmeal, sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
Pour buttermilk into another bowl.
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Dip each peach slice in buttermilk, then dredge in the flour mixture, coating evenly.
Fry the coated peach slices in batches for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Remove from oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
